A Brief History
Beach hockey was developed and started in 2004 by Floris Jan Bovelander, an ex Dutch international field hockey player. In a few years Beach hockey grew into a serious developing sport.

In 2008 and 2009 Beach Hockey Europe organised the European Beach Hockey Trophy in Sheveningen in the Netherlands. Besides teams from Holland, teams from Germany, Belgium and Spain joined this tournament.

Most recently, World Beach Hockey was established with headquarters in Melbourne, Australia under the presidency of Greg Mill, longtime player and coach and beach hockey devotee.

In October 19th & 20th 2023 the Executive Body of The Federation of International Hockey (FIH) met in Cairo Egypt where they officially recognised our organisation World Beach Hockey and agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding with this entity, therefore delegating the organisation of International Beach Hockey events to us and our members, who must be the National Associations of FIH, or a single organisation within a country that is recognised by the National Association. With this move, Beach Hockey continues to sit as a format of hockey controlled and sanctioned by FIH.
