The FIH  promotes Beach Hockey as a complementary version of the sport to traditional 11-a-side hockey, Indoor Hockey and Hockey5s.  

 

Beach hockey uses modified field hockey sticks with holes in the head to enable sand to travel through easily.

A soft leather ball replaces the regular hard dimpled hockey ball.

​

• The field of play is rectangular, 30-35 metres long and 20-25 metres wide.

​

• A maximum of five players from each team take part in play. 

​

• Goals can be scored from anywhere on the field.

​

• Players may not play with the foot or body.

​

• The ball may be played over shoulder height.

​

• The game start takes place with all players lining up in their defensive back line.

​

• One player runs and competes for possession of the ball.
